Dean Gallery Edinburgh
One of the newest additions to the Scottish National Gallery, the Dean Gallery was opened in 1999 across from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. This gallery displays some of the best works of the Dada and Surrealist schools, with a large section of gallery space dedicated to the work of Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. The galleries grounds also hold a wide range of sculptural works by Bourdelle, Hamilton Finlay and Turnbull. In addition to the permanent collections, the Dean Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions, which have recently included shows of the works of Dali and the Scottish Colourists.
One of the most fascinating parts of the gallery is its collection of artist's books, manuscripts and catalogues, most of them relating to the Surrealist and Dada movements. Many of these are on display in a special exhibition, although there is a special reading room where these works can be researched by appointment.
